AboutNicky

About me: My name is Nicky Samuels; I was born in Whangarei (near the top of the North Island), New Zealand on the 28th of February 1983.
Where I live: Wanaka (small resort town not far from Queenstown in the South Island) in New Zealand during the NZ summer months and during the Northern Hemisphere summer I follow the Triathlon World Series around the world.
Who I race for: I am currently racing for New Zealand and the TCG 79 Parthenay pro-team in France.
Where it all began: I started triathlon in 2003. Whilst working in Whangarei as a lifeguard during the University holidays my ex-high school teacher asked me to come and train with her - Sam Warriner!
I trained up a little and raced the 2003 world age group champs in Queenstown and placed 2nd in the 20-24 age group. Being a field hockey rep player I made the tough decision in 2004 to throw in the stick, get a coach, a bike and give this triathlon sport a go!
A few years later and part of the New Zealand elite team I am training and racing full time on the World Triathlon series circuit with the goal of competing for NZ at the Rio Olympic games in 2016.
